China has honored its eight peacekeeping police officers, killed in last week´s Haitian earthquake. Senior state and party leaders, officials, relatives and colleagues expressed their sorrow and condolences in a farewell ceremony.
They went there, on a humanitarian mission; they died there, in a devastating earthquake; and they were back, as national heroes.
UN Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon has extended his condolences over the deaths of the eight Chinese police officers in the Haiti earthquake.
"Zhao Huayu was our team head. He has passed away, but we are still here. Although the mission we are conducting is always dangerous, we will never give up and finish his course."
