Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |

Over the past 20 years, Chinese troops and police officers have been braving social unrest, tropical diseases and natural disasters to bring peace and stability to different parts of the world. The country's active role in UN peacekeeping missions reflects its responsible attitude to world peace and stability.

China started participating in UN peacekeeping missions in 1990, when the country sent five military observers to the UN Truce Supervision Organization.

Ten years later, the first batch of 15 police officers arrived in East Timor for a peacekeeping mission. In 2004, a 125-member contingent of Chinese riot police arrived in Haiti to join the UN peacekeeping mission in the crisis-torn country. That was China's first contribution of riot police to a UN mission.
