China says it will consider sending more peacekeeping police to Haiti, if it receives a request from the United Nations.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said on Tuesday that Chinese peacekeeping teams in Haiti are part of the United Nations' troops. He said if the UN decides to expand the number of peacekeepers there, the country will likely contribute.

Ma, didn't specify a timetable for the Chinese peacekeepers, saying that it depended on the local situation. He said Chinese police and medical staff will continue their support to the country.
