China's Foreign Ministry has urged the United States to honor the One China policy and joint communiques on the issue of Taiwan. This was a reponse to US President-elect Donald Trump's phone conversation with Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen. 

"The Taiwan issue is the most sensitive subject in China and the United States relationship. In the nearly forty years since China and the US established diplomatic ties, the relationship has developed well. A fundamental reason for that is that the US has generally adhered to One China policy and principles of three joint communiques. This is the political premise for stable and healthy development of the China-US relationship, and for the bilateral cooperation that both sides need," said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang.
