China's Foreign Minsitry says the mainland's position on the Taiwan issue will not change regardless of changes on the island.

"What I want to stress is that the One China policy has been widely recognized by the international community. Adhering to the One China policy is the important political basis and precondition for China to develop a relationship with other countries," 

"China's position of upholding the One China principle, opposing Taiwan's secession, and opposing two Chinas and One China One Taiwan will not change," said Hua Chunying from Chinese Foreign Ministry.
