Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said the phone call between US president-elect and Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen was a "petty action" by Taiwan, and will not change the One-China framework already formed by the international community.

Wang also brought up the previous phone call between President Xi Jinping and Trump, saying it was a good beginning for bilateral ties in the future.

"President Xi said as the biggest developing and developed countries, China and the US should and can cooperate on many issues and areas. He reiterated China is willing to further enhance its ties with the US, in order to realize a bilateral relationship with no conflicts and confrontation, but with mutual respect and win-win cooperation to better benefit people on both sides and around the world. Trump said China is great country with huge potential and a bright future. He believed that the further relationship between the two great countries will be bright. This phone call marks a good beginning for bilateral ties, and sends out positive signals on China-US relations," he said.

Wang made the remarks during an annual review of China's foreign policies on Saturday. He said the "One-China Policy" is the cornerstone of the healthy development of Sino-US ties, and hoped this political basis is not affected or damaged in any way.

The phone call between Trump and Tsai was an unprecedented break with the US policy with China set in 1979, when the US cut its ties with Taiwan. The White House on Friday also said there was "no change" to its stance towards the "One China Policy" after the call. Taiwan news reports suggest Tsai initiated the call.
