In Vientiane, leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, and China have met. They are in the capital of Laos for the 19th ASEAN-China Summit on Wednesday. They also are commemorating the 25th anniversary of dialogue and relations.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said in his speech that China's relations with ASEAN are expanding after establishing a dialogue mechanism 25 years ago. He also said China will support ASEAN's efforts to play a greater role in global and regional affairs.
The two sides issued a joint statement declaring their agreement to follow the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea. They also adopted a set of guidelines for their senior diplomats' hotline in addressing emergencies at sea.
