Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has met with the 10 leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrives in the Laotian capital of Vientiane on Sept. 6, 2016, setting in motion his first official visit to the country, where he will also attend the East Asia Summit. During the visit, Li will also attend the 19th China-ASEAN (10+1) leaders' meeting, and the 19th meeting of the leaders of ASEAN-China, Japan and South Korea (10+3). (Xinhua/Rao Aimin)
He is also expected to represent China in the 19th ASEAN plus Three meeting, together with Japan and South Korea. Li arrived in Vientiane late Tuesday, for his first official visit to the country.
2016 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue mechanism between China and ASEAN. Li said bilateral ties have reached a new starting point.
This year is also the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-Laos diplomatic ties. Premier Li said Beijing wants to take the anniversary as an opportunity to work with Vientiane in improving traditional friendship, cooperation, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
