Premier Li Keqiang has met with the elected President of the United Nations General Assembly, Peter Thomson in Beijing. During their talks, Premier Li told Thomson that China firmly supports the UN in dealing with global threats and challenges, such as a weak economic recovery, terrorism, and refugee problems.

He also said China will continue to work with the UN and other countries to improve global governance. Thomson said China is an important influence in the world, and plays an important role in the promotion of international peace. Earlier on Friday, Thomson met with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Thomson will be formally assuming the presidency of the UN General Assembly in September.
