For passengers on domestic Chinese flights
Carry-on Luggage
Passengers traveling first class who hold adult or child tickets are permitted to carry-on two pieces of hand baggage. For business or economy class passengers, only one piece of carry-on baggage is allowed. Your hand baggage should be less than five kilograms (about 11 pounds) in total and any piece must have dimensions no larger than 20 40 55 centimeters (8 16 22 inches). Any items that exceed these criteria are treated as checked luggage.
Checked Luggage Allowance
Except for infant ticket holders, passengers who hold an adult or half-price ticket (for a child) are allowed to take a certain amount of checked luggage for free. The limitation is below:

Each piece of checked luggage should not exceed 50 kilograms in weight (110 pounds) and 40 60 100 centimeters (16 24 39 inches) in size.
In addition, each passenger is allowed to have the following things carried on for free:
1. a gripesack
2. an overcoat or raincoat; a travel blanket
3. an umbrella or a walking stick
4. pocket-sized camera
5. a miniature telescope
6. reading matter for the flight
7. food for an infant during the flight
8. a bassinet
9. folding wheelchair, or a pair of crutches, and artificial limbs
10. a notebook PC
Other items, such as a backpack, attach岢 case, typewriter, portable radio, powder box, hatbox, good-sized camera and books (not for reading on the plane), cannot be taken as carry-on luggage above your free allowance, and will be treated as checked luggage.
Note: The above is just the general stipulation issued by CAAC (General Administration of Civil Aviation of China). Different Airlines may have different standards for free checked luggage. Please read the explanation printed on your air ticket.
Overweight Luggage
If your baggages are overweight, the excess amount will incur an additional charge determined by distance and weight: Generally, 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) costs 1.5% of a full economy-class airfare (one way, adult ticket).
For passengers on international flights departing from China
Carry-on Luggage
Each of your carry-on items should be less than 20 40 55 centimeters (9 14 22 inches), and the sum of its length, width and height must not exceed 115 centimeters (45 inches). The total weight should be no more than 7 kilograms (11 pounds). However, some airlines may have different rules on the weight of carry-on luggage.

The above stipulation is applied to passengers holding adult tickets or half-price tickets. For infant ticket holders, only one piece of luggage can be checked for free, the sum of its length, width and height should be less than 115 centimeters (45 inches). In addition, a pushchair or bassinet can be checked for free.
The following items can be treated as free checking luggage no matter what sizes they are in:
1. a sleeping bag or bedding
2. a haversack
3. a pair of skis with ski poles and ski boots, or skis with ski boots
4. a caddie bag with a golf club and shoes
5. a duffel bag or B-4 type bag
6. a well-packed bicycle
7. a standard water ski or an obstacle water ski
8. well packed fishing gear
9. sports gun
10. any portable instruments less than 100 centimeters (39 inches) in length
Note: Do not make your luggage overweight, or check in more than the allowed number of items, especially on flights to US and Canada, as the additional charge could be quite high.

The above rule is for passengers holding adult or half-price tickets. For infant ticket holders, no luggage can be checked for free. If your checked luggage exceeds the free allowance limit, additional charges will be incurred.
From May 1, 2007, a new regulation that limits liquids, has been enforced. Each passenger is allowed to take on board no more than one liter (excluding alcohol) of liquid. Each container should contain no more than 100 ml. The liquid container should be carried in a transparent plastic bag for the convenience of security checking. Duty-free liquid brought from other countries should also be packaged and checked in this way. Alcohol can only be taken as checked luggage. Liquid medicine and milk within a certain limit are allowed, but are subject to checking.
Note: Don't make your luggage too heavy. Each suitcase should be portable and stout. Make your luggage tag clear in detail. Important documents, currency, valuables and jewelry cannot be checked. You should take these items as carry-on luggage.
