Toyoda says he hopes to restore consumer confidence in the fast-growing market by handling RAV-4 recall as quickly as possible.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda said China is important to his company. He reiterated earlier statements that with his family name on the product, he is personally responsible for safety.

Akio Toyoda said, "I would like to apologize from the bottom of my heart for the worries that we have caused to the people around the world, including China, for the recent recalls. I'm very sorry."

Toyoda also said Chinese consumers need not worry about the Prius or Lexus brands, as the faulty parts on those models are not being used in China. He underscored his company's customers first strategy.
