Two more suspected flu type A patients in the southern province of Kien Giang have been reported. This raises the total so far to 20.

A local hospital says the two young patients are in need of respirators, and at risk of dying soon.

In a move to curb the spread of the bird flu which is thought to be the source of flu type A, Vietnam has urged local authorities to control the transport of poultry and destroy infected chickens.

The sale of poultry has been banned in the country's largest city, Ho Chi Minh.
