China issues bird flu alert

China's Health Ministry has told local health authorities to be on high alert for the spread of bird flu.

It's urging health authorities at all levels to keep a close watch on the epidemics in neighbouring countries and regions. The ministry says local agencies should report mutated or unknown viral strains to the China Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
