US to launch new approach in Afghan offensive

A massive new U.S.-Afghan offensive will integrate military and civilian efforts, in a strategy to emphasize development and governance in curbing Taliban influence.

Thousands of NATO and Afghan forces are expected to launch Operation Mushtarak within days on the Marjah plain in southern Helmand province.

On Sunday people were seen arriving in Lashkar Gah from Marjah in mini vans full of personal possessions.
