2010-02-06 12:56 BJT

Afghanistan's new Foreign Minister Zalmay Rasul says that his country is offering Taliban aid, not bribes. He also says relations with Pakistan are improving.

Rasul says the two countries are discussing how Pakistan can help stop militants who had safe haven there from crossing the border to attack Afghans and NATO forces.

As for the Taliban, the Foreign Minister says the way forward is to help them reintegrate into society.

Zalmay Rasul said, "We are not going to bribe them to stop fighting. These people need, if they can come on board and drop their guns, they need to live. They need to have a life to feed their family and do so. So we need to provide them the kind of social help, for example land, agriculture, whatever they need, so they can start to learn and have a proper life."
