Afghan President Hamid Karzai says he is considering reintroducing military conscription to build an army and police force that is capable of providing security without international help.
He made the remarks at the Munich Security Conference in Germany.
Hamid Karzai, Afghan President, said, "As with many countries, Afghanistan once traditionally depended on a conscripted army. In the past years, community leaders have advised me to return to some form of conscription for the Afghan army. This would allow young men from remote areas to be acquainted with the rest of the country and receive military training."
