Kim Jong-Il, the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, has been re-elected chairman of the country's National Defense Commission.

He has also attended the opening session of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly.

DPRK media say the re-election reflects the unanimous will and wishes of all the people and service personnel.

The parliament also has elected other members of the Supreme People's Assembly Presidium and the National Defense Commission.

The parliament re-elected Kim Yong-Il as premier and unanimously approved cabinet members proposed by him.

State media say the meeting is a milestone in strengthening and developing the republic's administration into a powerful revolutionary regime.
