The recent rocket launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has raised global concerns. But while some countries are calling for sanctions against the DPRK, Russia has been countering that approach.

Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, said, "We think any threats of sanctions are counter-productive. And that we need to concentrate on the fulfillment of existing decisions of the Security Council."(CCTV.com)

Russia says it is worried by the launch. And it is calling for necessary steps to prevent the situation from leading to any more destabilization. But it says sanctions against the DPRK will NOT help the situation.

Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, said, "We think any threats of sanctions are counter-productive. And that we need to concentrate on the fulfillment of existing decisions of the Security Council."

After a series of closed-door meetings, the UN Security Council members haven't reached any agreement on the issue.

And the next meeting between the five permanent members of the Security Council, Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Japan has been postponed once again.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is calling for a unified Security Council message in response to the launch.
