Narzan Ibrahim, along with Awad Hamed al-Bander, were sentenced to death, for the killing of 148 people in Dujail, after a failed 1982 assassination attempt against Saddam.

An Iraqi government official confirmed on Wednesday that preparations were being made to hang them on Thursday.

In Baghdad, some residents welcomed the news.

Baghdad resident, said, "God willing, there will be good news tomorrow for families of martyrs and families of those who were oppressed during Saddam's era."

Baghdad resident, said, "We, as Iraqis, believe those people should be hanged. They are tyrants. They harmed people. Each terrorist and criminal should be executed. We call upon the government to execute every one who is harming people."

But the government and the US military have not yet released details of the place or exact time of the hangings.

John Caldwell, US army spokesman, said, "I really should let them announce when they are going to do those, rather than us. Because again that is going to be their decision not ours, so I would really rather let the government of Iraq answer that one."

An Iraqi official said the final arrangements still needed to made with the US military, which was expected to transport the two men from prison to the execution site.
