It's been one year since China implemented its national defense and military reform. Spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense Yang Yujun Wednesday summed up some of the major achievements that have been made during the year and shared with us the PLA's future goals.
"The reforms on PLA’s leadership, management, and combat command systems have shown initial effectiveness. We have subsequently established the PLA army headquarters, the Rocket Force, and the strategic support force, reorganized previous four general headquarters of CMC into 15 agencies, regrouped the previous 7 military area commands into 5 theatre commands, completed the restructuring of the headquarters of the PLA navy, air force, Rocket force, and People’s Armed Police force, and established a joint logistic support force."
"A new structure featuring the central military commission takes charge of the overall administration of the armed forces; the theatre commands focus on combat; and different military services pursue their own construction...steadily and actively...national defense and military reform," Yang said.
