China's Gao Xinglong has been on a great run in the men's long jump this year and despite he and his teammate Wang Jianan being the youngest competitors in the event, they would be two of the favourites.
Gao claimed gold at both the Shanghai Diamond League meet and the Beijing World Challenge in May. And the Chinese jumper's first effort of 8.11 meters is enough to win in the English capital with the result giving Gao a 24-point lead in the Diamond League standings.
Wang, who won bronze at last year's World Championships in Beijing, would finish fourth with a leap of 7.91 meters.
World record holder Merritt fails to get out of heats
In the men's 110 meters hurdles, France's Dimitri Bascou would cross the line first in a time of 13.28 seconds while the world record holder, Aries Merritt who had a kidney transplant ten months ago, failed to qualify for the final.
Briton runs fastest time of the year (12:59)
There would be no doubt who the favourite was in the men's 5,000 meters and Britain's Mo Farah would not disappoint his local fans. The man who won both this event and the 10,000 meters at the 2012 London Olympics would remind everyone why he is the one to beat in Rio. Farah runs away from the field to clock the fastest time in the world so far this year at 12 minutes and 59 seconds.
Two-time Olympic champ Fraser-Pryce finishes third
There would be a surprise in the women's 100 meters as two-time Olympic champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica ends up in third. The gold medal would go to Cote D'Ivoire's Marie-Josee Ta Lou while the silver is claimed by Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago. Ta Lou clocks a personal best 10.96 seconds to win the final.
Dutchwoman favourite for Rio after winning in 22.15 seconds
Another big name that would not disapppoint is the world champion in the women's 200 meters, Dafne Schippers from the Netherlands. Schippers shows she will be hard to beat in Rio after a commanding run gives her the gold in a time of 22.15 seconds.
