The International Association of Athletics Federations has unanimously decided to extend the ban on Russia taking part in international competitions, due to systematic doping. The IAAF council said not enough progress had been made in reform. Rune Andersen, the head of the body's inspection team, said no athlete would compete in Rio under a Russian flag.

"As for the test in athletes in Russia has continued to encounter serious obstacles and difficulties...a way from returning to full operational compliance with anti-dope code," said Rune Andersen, independent chair, IAAF inspection team.
