One of the final track events before the Olympic Games begin was held in London. Usain Bolt was competing in the 200 metres for the first time in more than a year -- and looked sluggish. The world's fastest man is trying to overcome injury, as he pulled out of the 100 metres in the Jamaican trials last month due to a hamstring strain, and is hoping to be in 100-percent health for the Rio Games next month.

Bolt was his usual gregarious self, being the showman. And then doing his traditional pose. Fans were ecstatic to see the 6-time Olympian, as numerous fans would be waving the Jamaican flag -- and not all of them were Jamaicans, I would say. 

The race would not start well, as American Sean Mclean would false start, and then Bolt would false start in the second attempt to run. 

That means it is time for Bolt to refocus, as he would get back in the blocks for his more favoured distance, despite all his success in the 100 metres, the Jamaican has said on numerous occasions that he prefers this longer sprint.

And eventually when they do get going -- racing in lane six, the Jamaican is able to get out in front as they hit the turn. Bolt is able to keep Panama's Alonso Edward, and Great Britain's Adam Gemili in his rearview mirror, finishing in a time of 19.89 seconds, well behind his best time or the world leading time of LaShawn Merritt -- which is about 15-one-hundredths faster than the Jamaican on this day.

"Well I'm tired but I'm also happy. The execution (of the race) was good. I was proud of myself and that's it. I live for this. I like competition. I like people doubting me. I like the energy so I'm looking forward to going to Rio and defending my titles," Bolt said.

American Taylor earns gold with leap of 17.78m

In the men's triple jump, China's Dong Bin, would be able to get on the podium. This year's Indoor Track and Field Championship gold medalist took bronzw with a leap of 16.85 meters, he would fault in two other attempts. American Christian Taylor took gold with his jump of 17.78 metres. 

American's time 12.20 secs breaks mark of 12.21 set in 1988

In the women's 100-metres hurdles, American Kendra Harrison would challenge locla favourite Jessica Ennis-Hill.

The American finished sixth at the U-S trials, and will not be going to rio, but was on form on this day. She would blow away the competition in the middle lane and had no idea she would set a world record. The television clock showed 12.58, but that was incorrect so Harrison was unaware she ran 12.20 seconds -- a new world record. And when she found out, she collapsed to her knees. That was one-one-hundredth of a second faster than Bulgaria's Yordanka Donkova which was set way back in 1988.
