Eight Turkish officers who fled to Greece after the failed military coup have been given suspended sentences by a Greek court. The six pilots and two engineers were sentenced to two months in prison for their illegal entry, though the sentences were suspended for three years.
Ankara had demanded Athens to extradite the soldiers to stand trial for participation in last weekend's coup attempt. But the soldiers denied involvement and insisted they had been tasked with transporting wounded soldiers and civilians. They claimed their helicopter had come under fire from police and others on the ground.
