Greek prosecutors have charged eight Turkish soldiers seeking asylum in Greece with illegally entering the country. The men flew to Greece in a helicopter after a failed military coup earlier this week.
Ankara says it wants the “traitors” extradited soon. But a lawyer representing some of the soldiers says his clients require asylum because their lives would be in danger if they returned.
The soldiers say they were following orders by their superiors to transport injured people to a nearby hospital and did not know there was a coup.
