Turkish authorities have rounded up dozens of judges and senior military personnel following a failed military coup which aimed to oust president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The country's Justice Minister said in an interview with local TV that 6,000 people have been detained in connection with the coup, with further arrests expected.
A faction of Turkey's army sought to overthrow the government by seizing key strategic points in Istanbul and the capital, Ankara. According to the government, 161 civilians and regular troops were killed. The military said that over 100 people involved in the coup were also killed.
