Greek aviation official: Flight MS804 crashed in Egyptian airspace

The French newsagency AFP is quoting a Greek civil aviation source as saying that the plane was in Egytian airspace when it crashed into the sea.

The aviation official said the last communication with the pilot was three minutes before the plane disappeared from Greek radars at around 00:29 GMT. The official said there had been no distress call. Greek air and naval units are now scouting the area.

Flight MS804 had 10 crew and 56 passengers, including 15 French nationals, a Briton, a Canadian, and a Belgian. The plane departed from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport at 21:09 GMT, and was bound for Cairo.

It was travelling at an altitude of 37,000 feet when it vanished from the radar 20 minutes before it was due to land. The airline has provided families of passengers with contact numbers from both inside and outside the country. Stay tuned for more information about this.
