Afghan officials have signed a draft agreement with the Hezb-e-Islami militant group.

The government hopes it could lead to a full peace accord with one of the most notorious warlords in the insurgency. Under the terms of the draft agreement, members of the group would be offered an amnesty.

The government will also work to have the group removed from a UN black list.

"The draft peace agreement does not mean that this is the final stage of the agreement. This is a big achievement for the people of Afghanistan that in such a crucial situation, an important and key jihadi party has joined the peace process," said Mohammad Khan, Afghan government official.
