Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has urged Taliban militants in the country to engage in negotiations as soon as possible, saying there is little time left for peace.
"The doors of peace negotiations remain open for those in the Taliban who are ready to stop the bloodshed and lay their arms down. However, this opportunity will not be there forever."
"I want to make clear that we do not expect Pakistan to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table," he said.
Ghani was addressing parliament following a Taliban bomb attack in Kabul last week, which killed at least 64 people and wounded hundreds more. He described Taliban leaders in west Pakistan as slaves and enemies of Afghanistan.
He urged Islamabad to fulfill its promises, and carry out military operations against the movement. However, Pakistan government denies claims it is harbouring and aiding the Taliban. The Afghan President also pledged war against radical groups like the Islamic State.
