This year's May Day Holiday has seen a consumption peak in tourism industry in China. The Chinese railway authority says some 13 million train trips were made across the country on the first day of the holiday, beating last year's record high.

Most tourists headed to southern and eastern regions, including Hainan, Zhejiang and Jiangsu. Overseas tour packages were also the bestseller this year, with Japan, Thailand and South Korea being the top three destinations.
