It's labor day here in China and millions of Chinese are taking a trip to celebrate the three day holiday. China's railway companies are serving more passengers this year than ever before.

Shenyang station in China's northeast Liaoning province has reported 1.1 million single day train rides for Saturday -- a new record. More travellers are also taking high-speed trains that link Chengdu, Yanliang, and Xian. In the south, all 58 self-service ticket counters are open to serve customers in Kunming.

Additional staff are on duty around the country to help passengers reach their destinations. Transport departments say they expect an equal number of passengers to take trains back home on Monday.
