Special Report: World tackles A/H1N1 flu |
ANKARA, May 31 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish Health Ministry late Saturday announced two more cases infected with influenza A/H1N1 virus.
An official statement issued by Health Ministry said two Turkish citizens, who came back from the United States, were infected with the novel flu.
The two citizens applied to hospitals when they suffered from high fever, muscle and joint pain, said the statement, adding that medical tests proved that both citizens were infected with the flu virus.
Turkish doctors were quoted as saying by the Anatolia news agency that both patients were isolated and under medical treatment, and that other passengers aboard the two planes were being closely monitored.
One of the citizens flew from New York to the Turkish Aegean city of Izmir via Istanbul on May 29, and the other came from Houston to Istanbul via Amsterdam on the same day, according to the report.
Two weeks ago, the first two influenza A/H1N1 cases were detected in foreign passengers, who first travelled from the United States to Amsterdam, then transferred to a flight to Istanbul from the Dutch capital and were planning to proceed to Iraq.
Turkish Health Minister Recep Akdag said at a press conference on the cases in Istanbul that the passengers were U.S. citizens and were immediately isolated before contact with any other individuals at the airport.
