The US International Trade Commission says, it will hold a public hearing on Friday on a proposal to impose stiff duties on tire imports from China.

Representatives of the "China Rubber Industry Association" have arrived in Washington. They urged the US government to listen to its own industries, and not impose protective measures on tires. They say, China's tires are not hurting the American tire industry. Chinese tires sold in the US are mainly used as replacements, while the US producers' market is focused on tires for new cars.

The "US International Trade Commission" is recommending tariffs of up to 55 percent on Chinese motor vehicle, and light truck tires. US President Barack Obama will make a final decision on the issue by September 17th.
