Special Report: Iran presidential election 09 |

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called on the nation to be calm and patient. Massive rallies have been held every day since the presidential election, alleging fraud in the election results.

At Friday prayers in Tehran University, the supreme leader said all four candidates belong to Iran's Islamic establishment and the dispute is an internal issue. He said President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's opinions on some foreign, economic and social issues were close to his. Khamenei said that the country's election mechanism does not allow any cheating and it is wrong to resort to street protests to exert pressure.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said "Disputes which take place in a country among a free nation is normal, these should not distract us from the path we should take and the way we should take this path. From the very first this revolution was based on pure beliefs."
