Special Report: Iran presidential election 09 |
Iran's Guardian Council, the country's top legislative body, says it have begun examining nearly six hundred and fifty complaints about voting irregularities. The council also invited three defeated candidates to discuss their complaints.
The three defeated candidates have submitted six hundred and forty six complaints.
They will discuss them with legislators within the next few days.
Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei, Guardian Council Spokesman, said, "It was agreed that the honorable candidates who have appealed about the election attend an extra meeting on Saturday in person with the Guardian Council and relay what they have to say directly to the honorable members of the council for the final decision about election results."
The electoral authority has said it's prepared to conduct a limited recount of ballots at sites where candidates claim irregularities.
The re-count would be overseen by the Guardian Council.
But main opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi is calling for an independent investigation. He alleges the Council is not neutral and has already indicated it supports Ahmadinejad.
