Special Report: Iran presidential election 09 |

Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi has issued a challenge to the presidential election results.

Mousavi called for a mass rally to be held on Thursday to protest disputed election results.

Thousands of Iranians took to the streets of Tehran in rival demonstrations on Tuesday over the contentious election results. This pushed the crisis across the country into its fourth day.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had said the night before that Mousavi should pursue his demands through the country's electoral system. And he added that Iranians must unite behind the government.

But Mousavi appears to have no intention of backing down.

He called on his Web site for a demonstration on Thursday.

The protests on a daily basis have resulted in the deaths of at least 7 people.
