Taiwan's Kuomintang Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung arrived in Chongqing on Wednesday to continue his mainland tour.
He is scheduled to attend the opening of Taiwan Week in Southwest China's largest city, and participate in several economic and cultural activities.
Meanwhile, the State Council's Taiwan Affairs office is citing the achievements of Wu Poh-hsiung's visit so far, and has announced further action the mainland will take to promote cross-straits cooperation.
The Kuomintang Chairman's visit to the mainland has caught the attention of many from across the Taiwan Straits. One topic of discussion is how to build mutual trust and consensus while putting aside differences and conflicts.
Yang Yi, Spokesman, State council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said, "Both sides have agreed to work for the peaceful development of cross-strait ties. We opposed Taiwan separatism, and agreed to further mutual trust."
The highlight of this visit was Wu Poh-hsuing's meeting with CPC leader Hu Jintao on Tuesday. The two ruling party leaders met in Beijing for the second time since last year. In the face of the economic downturn, both sides agreed to work together.
Taiwan Affairs office spokesman Yang Yi said the mainland and Taiwan will start negotiations for an Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement as soon as possible, which will mean closer economic ties.
