The World Health Organization says that as of 5pm Tuesday Beijing time, nearly 10,000 cases of the A/H1-N1 flu have been confirmed in 42 countries and regions.
The US is still the worst affected with over 5,000 confirmed cases, and five reported deaths. Mexico has 70 confirmed deaths, with more than 36 hundred confirmed infections.
Japan is now facing the risk of a more widespread outbreak. Latest statistics show that the number of cases in Japan has risen to 178, making it the most affected nation in Asia.
Thousands of schools in the western part of the country have been ordered to close. The government has considered scaling down quarantine checks at airports while focusing on its domestic outbreak.
