Tokyo confirms its first case of A/H1N1 flu

Tokyo has its first confirmed case of A/H1N1 flu. New cases have also been detected in Osaka, Hyogo and Shiga prefectures. As of Wednesday, Japan's A/H1N1 count stood at 267.

A Japanese official says the patient is a 16-year-old high school girl in Hachioji, western Tokyo.

Another girl who lives just outside Tokyo also tested positive.They both recently visited the United States.

A 23-year-old man, in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, has been confirmed the first case outside Osaka and Hyogo prefectures.

All Otsu kindergartens and elementary and junior high schools have been closed for seven days. Shiga prefecture has closed all high schools.

Shiga Governor Yukiko Kada told reporters her government will do everything to prevent the flu from spreading.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old woman who works in hospital in Nagoya has also been confirmed, the first for medical staff.

The Minister for Health, Labor and Welfare, Yoichi Masuzoe, says the government will now focus on limiting the spread of the virus along the lines of its domestic transmission.
