Taiwan confirms 1st A/H1N1 case

The first A/H1N1 case has been confirmed in Taiwan. This brings the number of confirmed Chinese cases to eight. There was also one suspected case reported on Tuesday.

The Chinese mainland reports four confirmed cases and one suspected infection. The first two people who contracted the new A/H1N1 strain of flu have now recovered and are out of hospital.

The third and fourth cases remain in stable condition and are being treated in hospitals in Beijing and Guangzhou. The suspected case was reported in Tibet on Tuesday.

The number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong remains unchanged at three. The first has been discharged from hospital and the remaining two are in stable condition.

Taiwan's health authorities on Wednesday confirmed the island's first infection in a 52-year old foreign man.
