The eastern city of Linyi in Shandong Province is energizing its cultural industry. Cultural management institutions and artistic troupes have undergone market-oriented structural reform.

The eastern city of Linyi in Shandong Province is energizing its  cultural industry.

At the city's network monitoring centre, staff supervise web bars round-the-clock. They'll take quick action if they see violations of network business regulations.

The system came about with the establishment of the city's cultural market management supervision bureau.

The structural reform is also evident in Linyi's art troupes. They used to manage business on their own. Coordinating resources has allowed many troupes to merge into one group.

The cultural industry now accounts for nearly 4 percent of the city's total GDP output, a big rise from the 1 percent in 2004.
