The food festival at the National Swimming Center features two appealing parts for both chefs and spectators: the display of the techniques for making some time honored dishes, and the final of the National Cuisine Competition.

Thirteen time honored dishes from Beijing and other parts of China will be made on the spot, to both satisfy the mind and tastebuds of spectators. The making of these dishes are all listed as intangible cultural heritage items.

Eight districts of Beijing will hold activities that promote "healthy and delicious food". Interesting ones include, "a healthy food tour in Guijie in Dongcheng district", and "a night food fair in Huairou district".

During the week long food festival, two hundred and fifty chefs from around China will compete in all-round skills in food serving, that include making Chinese dishes, Chinese dough snacks and western dishes and food carving.
