Special Report:   2008 Beijing Olympics

Cameras already are rolling on a movie about the Beijing Olympics. Shooting began Sunday night. The Olympic film has been a tradition kept at every Olympiad since 1912 when the event was held in Stockholm. Beijing's National Stadium, the "bird's nest", the main venue for the Beijing Olympics, will be in the frame as the opening shot. Construction on the stadium is ongoing.

The shot was framed from the south plaza of the "bird's nest".

Titled "Beijing Olympics", the movie is directed by Gu Jun, from the China's Central Newsreel & Documentary Film Studio. The two-hour movie will record the 2008 sports spectacle from the Chinese people's perspective. It will aim to tell stories of struggle and triumph of athletes, to tell stories about the ordinary people who come, to embrace national pride, and to provide a panoramic view of the games.
