Most of the Olympic venues will be completed by the end of the year and the National Stadium, also known as "Bird's Nest", will be completed early next year. The newly-built, renovated and temporary venues will be put into operation during the month-long "Good Luck Beijing" test series.

Along with venue construction ticket sales have stirred worldwide interest.

Wang Wei said, "More than 700,000 ticket applications have been placed for 4.9 million tickets when the first booking phase closed by the end of June."

Meanwhile, more than 560,000 people have applied to be volunteers at the Olympics and Paralympics.

Vice-president Wang Wei is quoted as saying that BOCOG has taken measures to solve the problems of Olympic food safety, which has recently attracted global attention.

Wang Wei said, "We attach great importance to the food safety, especially Olympic-related food service. We established a coordinating group and made acting guidelines. The key elements include keeping closer eyes on the lobe food safety information, setting up tracking mechanism, etc."

The Beijing Olympic Games will take place from August the eighth to the twenty-fourth of next year. Approximately 1,500 athletes are expected to participate in the Games.
