Li said Chinese toy manufacturers have been put under "very serious supervision and surveillance, and consumers shouldn't be worried about product quality."

Li Changjiang, Head of AQSIQ said "I suggest that before Christmas comes, all parents choose toys their children will love - ones that will be high quality and safe."

At the news briefing, Li said China had also decided to perform safety check-ups on toy designs by foreign buyers, in response to toy recalls caused by faulty designs.

The news conference was held on the sidelines of the China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue. The SED is a channel for officials both countries to reach agreements on a variety of trade and financial issues. China said during the meeting that the two sides share a common responsibility.

Li said "Every country bears responsibility for ensuring product quality and food safety. China and the US should strengthen cooperation between relevant departments to jointly improve product safety and quality."

Li also added that the US government should take a practical attitude on this issue and expanding bilateral cooperation, sending a positive message to the public and consumers.
