Nearly 1500 Chinese toy makers have had their products certified. That's according to the State Certification and Accreditation Administration, after the procedure was mandated for six categories of toys.

Officials say the administration has implemented the compulsory certification of six categories of toys that directly affect children's health. These include baby carriers, electronic toys, toy guns, baby dolls, plastic toys and metal toys. Currently, nearly 1500 producers have received more than 4000 certificates for their toys.

Sun Dawei, Head of State Certification Administration said "Toys without such certificates cannot leave the factory, be sold, or be used in any occasion."

In 2006, China shipped out 22 billion toys, accounting for 60 percent of the world's production. Almost three-fourths of these toys are sold in Europe.

Despite massive recalls of over 20 million Chinese toys due to unsafe levels of lead paint and unsafe magnets, China's toy industry logged more than a 25 percent year-on-year increase this October. The industry experienced a more than 5 percent decline from the previous month, but Christmas demand spurred a quick recovery.
