The Olympic economy continues to heat up in China. The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games says it will expand its franchise retail network across the country.

The committee said Wednesday it would set up 2,000 franchise stores this year in provincial capitals and major second tier cities. It will also reduce prices for some of its products, and offer more low-priced goods for ordinary consumers.

So far, BOCOG has established more than 500 franchise stores in 70 cities. These stores sell over four thousand kinds of products featuring the "Fuwa" mascots, as well as Chinese culture. BOCOG said it has set a target of making some 550 million yuan from merchandising for the 2008 Games.
