Heading a 1,000-member youth delegation, Fukuda attended the closing ceremony of the "China-Japan Friendly Exchange Year of Youth" in Beijing last weekend.

President Hu Jintao hailed the successful conclusion of the exchange year and praised Fukuda's contribution to Sino-Japanese relations. Hu Jintao said significant progress had been made in 2008, as leaders of the two countries frequently visited and cooperated in international and regional affairs.

Hu Jintao said China is willing to work with Japan for the continuation of exchanges among the youth of the two countries, which paves the way for the long-term development of bilateral ties.

Fukuda said President Hu Jintao's visit to Japan had a great impact on Sino-Japanese relations. He added that Japan would enhance cooperation with China, properly handle problems and join hands to cope with the global challenges.
