A 1,000-strong Japanese youth delegation is visiting China. Together with their local counterparts, they attended the closing session on Saturday of the China-Japan Friendly Exchange Year of Youth.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda attended the ceremony.

They each tied a red ribbon to an evergreen tree, representing their wishes for a better future for the two countries.

The two sides spoke highly of the exchanges held this year between youths of the two countries and agreed to work together to continue exchanges.

1,000 Japanese youngsters attended the ceremony and watched the gala show.

Keita Miyak, Student University of Tokyo, said, "I used to learn about China from various media. Through this visit, I can communicate with Chinese people by myself. It's more direct and helps increase the familiarity between us. It's different from what I have seen in media."
