2008 marks the 80th anniversary of the birth of Cuba's national hero, Che Guevara. Marking the anniversary, a sculpture of the revolutionary hero has been unveiled in Beijing's Chaoyang park.

The work was carved by artist Yuan Xikun. Representatives from embassies of Latin American countries in Beijing came to the unveiling. Carlos Miguel Pereira, Cuba's ambassador to China, joined with Yuan Xikun to unveil the sculpture.

The ambassador also delivered a speech to commemorate the revolutionary hero, politician, author and guerrilla leader. The artist said he was touched by the both the heroic spirit and the stylized image of Guevara. That was his inspiration.

Che Guevara was born in Argentina. He was named by Time Magazine as on the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.
